Logitech Drivers Won't Load - SetPoint Drivers - Windows Error 37

Apparently there are several people having problems with Logitech Drivers for Wireless Keyboard & Mouse equiptment. A member of our team recently wasted 6 hours including an hour on the phone trying to track down the reason for this problem and finally found a thread on the Logitech Forums regarding the issue.

The Problem...

You purchase a Logitech Keyboard and/or Mouse and follow the instructions which dictate that you plugin the USB wireless device and connect the mouse / keyboard. Then you install the SetPoint software from the CD they give with the device. In our case, these instructions worked like a charm and the equipment worked without error for several days.

After a few days, the SetPoint software attempted to install an update that was downloaded from the Logitech Website (version 4.70) and from that point forward the Mouse and Keyboard would not connect. Upon un-installing the software, the mouse and keyboard would start working again, but none of the special features of the keyboard were working.

After attempting to re-install setpoint several times, we noticed that the drivers for the keyboard and mouse were not loading correctly (under the driver manager, you could see the yellow alert icon). We attempted to force the update of these drivers several times, allowing windows to automatically search for the driver, as well as manually selecting the driver. All attempts failed with the message "Windows could not connect to the device (Error 37)"

What is this Error 37? We contacted Logitech and were instructed to go through all the steps we had already performed, only to finally learn that Logitech acknowledges the problem of the mysterious "Error 37" but that they have no formal solution and no suggestion for resolving the issue. The call was ended...

Finally after several more hours and attempts, a lucky search in Google turned up a forum post in Logitech's own forum simply titled "Error 37" - Yes we had searched already, but somehow our queries were'nt returning this post...

The person that posted the above solution indicates the same problem, and the solution? Hilarious...

The Solution...

  1. Un-Install Setpoint and any other logitech junk
  2. Reboot
  3. Rename the file "C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\wdf01000.sys" to "wdf01000.sys.crap"
This will disable the file, keeping it for backup in case you screw
  4. Download and Install SetPoint - we used 4.70 ( 12/12/2009 )
At this point we were finally back online...
  5. Reboot

How silly...
